The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the commissioning of a 100MVA 132/33kV power transformer at its Port Harcourt main substation. This development, part of a TCN-World Bank project, is set to significantly bolster the bulk transmission capability of the substation by 80MW.
According to TCN, the project also encompasses the comprehensive rehabilitation and expansion of the 132/33kV transmission substation, along with the addition of three feeders and associated accessories. With the successful installation of the 100MVA power transformer, the substation’s installed capacity has surged from 180MVA to 280MVA.
This initiative holds considerable promise for industries situated in the Trans Amadi industrial environment and communities beyond Port Harcourt city, as they stand to benefit substantially from the expanded capacity.
Highlighting its recent efforts, TCN revealed that within the first quarter of this year, it has executed several projects in its Port-Harcourt Region, with several others ongoing at various completion stages. Among these projects is the imminent completion and commissioning of a 100MVA transformer installation in Port Harcourt Town.
TCN further disclosed ongoing transformer projects in various locations within the Port Harcourt region, including Port-Harcourt Town, Itu, Umuahia, Aba, and Alaoji. These projects are strategically aimed at reinforcing bulk power transmission capabilities within the region.
In a significant development, TCN recently received four power transformers, including two units of 100MVA capacity transformers, for its Port Harcourt Sub-region. These acquisitions underscore TCN’s commitment to enhancing power transmission infrastructure and ensuring reliable electricity supply across Nigeria.
