TCN Launches Inspection Tour in Abuja, Flags Right-of-Way Challenges in Power Projects

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has launched an inspection tour of critical power projects in Abuja, highlighting persistent right-of-way constraints that are delaying the completion of key electricity infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The tour, led by the Executive Director of the Transmission Service Provider (TSP), Olugbenga Ajiboye, called for urgent government intervention to resolve the obstacles and accelerate electricity supply to strategic areas in the city. Ajiboye noted that several projects were falling short of expectations due to challenges along transmission line routes.

During the tour, the TCN team visited the Abuja Ring Project, sponsored by the French Development Agency (AFD), to assess progress and ensure timely completion. Other participants included the Coordinating General Manager of the Project Implementation Unit (PIU), Aminu Tahir, and the General Manager of Monitoring & Evaluation, Jane Okemini, among others.

The team also inspected the Kuje 132/33kV transmission substation, now fully completed. Upon commissioning, the facility is expected to significantly boost bulk power supply to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for onward distribution to Kuje and Dafara communities.

At the Lugbe West Main 330/132/33kV transmission substation, the TCN reported that the hybrid facility is 91% complete. The company emphasized that overcoming right-of-way challenges is critical to ensuring the timely delivery of these projects and improving power reliability in the FCT.
