TCN Warns Vandalism Threatens Nigeria’s Power Supply Stability

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has raised serious concerns over the persistent vandalism of its infrastructure, warning that the trend is jeopardizing the stability and sustainability of electricity supply across the country.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement in Kaduna themed “Danger of Encroachment and Vandalism,” the General Manager, Kaduna Region, Engr. Nasir Mansur S. Fada, said the company is overwhelmed by the frequency of vandalisation incidents and called for stronger collaboration between communities, security agencies, and relevant stakeholders to tackle the crisis.

The engagement, part of TCN’s renewed push to safeguard critical power infrastructure, also aimed to sensitise host communities on the dangers of building under transmission lines and the rising threat of infrastructure sabotage.

“Without community support and active vigilance, our efforts to expand and modernize the grid will continue to face setbacks,” Engr. Fada stated. He revealed that new transformers have been installed in several locations, and numerous expansion and upgrade projects are currently underway across the region.

However, these developments are being hampered by acts of vandalism, which not only disrupt power supply but also endanger lives and hamper economic growth.

TCN reiterated that public cooperation is essential to achieving uninterrupted power delivery, urging residents to report suspicious activities around transmission facilities and to avoid encroachment near power lines.

The company is also working with other security and regulatory bodies to enhance protection mechanisms for its installations nationwide.
