President Bola Tinubu has committed over N1.3 trillion to ongoing road and bridge infrastructure projects in the South-East region, according to the Minister of Works, David Umahi.
In a statement released on Monday, Umahi reaffirmed the current administration’s commitment to equitable national development, stressing that the South-East is not being sidelined as some have alleged.
The statement, titled “President Tinubu Treating the South-East Region with Fairness and Equity in Road and Bridge Infrastructure Development,” also took aim at a recent publication accusing the government of neglecting the region.
Umahi described the article, published by Linus Anagboso (popularly known as D-Big Pen) under the headline “The Politics of Asphalt: Why is the South-East Missing from the Map?”, as “mischievous” and a “deliberate attempt to misinform the public.”
“My attention as the Minister of Works has been drawn to a wrong and misleading statement… I understand that politics is now in the air, and the chosen path by some persons is to deceive unsuspecting members of the public,” Umahi said.
He insisted that President Tinubu’s infrastructure agenda covers all regions fairly and that claims of marginalization in the South-East are politically motivated and unfounded.
