President Bola Tinubu has underscored the urgent need to create a conducive business environment in Nigeria to attract sustained foreign investment, especially from strategic partners like China.
Speaking through Joseph Tegbe, Director-General/Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, at the Nigeria-China Sustainable Business, Bilateral Trade and Investment Summit held in Lagos, the President said Nigeria is well-positioned to become a net exporter to China within five years.
The summit, organised by Merited Negotiation Consulting and coordinated by its Executive Vice-Chairman/CEO, Mr. Kunle Yusuff, was held in collaboration with the House of Representatives Committee on Nigeria-China Relations.
President Tinubu praised both the committee and Mr. Yusuff for their efforts in strengthening the 54-year-old diplomatic and trade relationship between Nigeria and China.
He emphasised that parliamentary support is crucial to unlocking the full potential of Nigeria-China cooperation. “The Nigerian Legislature plays a vital role in actualising the ten China-Africa partnership actions, particularly through its lawmaking, oversight, and budgetary powers,” he stated.
Stakeholders at the summit echoed the call for a more stable policy and regulatory framework, noting that enhanced legislative backing would not only improve investor confidence but also support long-term bilateral trade and industrial collaboration.
The event marks another step in solidifying Nigeria’s vision of becoming a dominant player in China-Africa trade relations and leveraging its market potential to boost local production and exports.
