Nigeria’s participation at the ongoing Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan, is anchored on an ambitious mission: to attract over $1 billion in trade and investment.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said his delegation is focused on accelerating green innovation, boosting industrial growth, and creating opportunities for young Nigerians while positioning the country as the heart and gateway to West Africa’s vast market.
Highlighting the need for peace as a foundation for sustainable investment, the President vowed to continue tackling the root causes of terrorism and commended the Armed Forces for their sacrifices. According to him, defeating extremism requires not only military strength but also reforms that deny terror groups fertile ground.
In a post on his verified X handle, @officialABAT, Tinubu underscored Nigeria’s leadership role at the conference, stressing that the country was not attending TICAD9 as a passive participant.
“At #TICAD9, themed ‘Co-create innovative solutions with Africa,’ Nigeria comes with clarity of purpose,” he wrote.
With its ambitious investment target, Nigeria aims to use TICAD9 as a springboard for stronger economic partnerships and long-term development.
