Following the success of its event in 2018, Ottawa Canada Tourism which has already seen two association bids and a further four actively considering Canada’s capital for their next event, has confirmed a European buyer event at Gleneagles in Scotland.
The 2019 event will take place from June 21-23 at Gleneagles and will once again feature a variety of leisure, hospitality and educational activities aimed to change perceptions of Ottawa and help organizers understand the city’s “same but different” mentality and philosophy.
According to authorities of the Ottawa Tourism board, the 2018 event delivered in excess of CAD$2.2 million (Canadian dollars) in economic impact to Ottawa as well as the development of other relationships, which have led to site inspections, bids and potential new business for the city.
President and CEO of Ottawa Tourism, Michael Crockatt, described the 2018 event as one that had proven that taking risks can pay off in a huge way, as in this case with an ROI (Return on Investment) of more than 700%.

Also speaking about last year’s event, Secretary general of the International Association of Institutes of Navigators, Simon Gaskin described the event in his words as “one that provided a chance to get to know a wide variety of new people, receive some great education and experience something different in a beautiful setting”.

According to him, a cross-section of attendees from the travel trade to association executives and event planners, provided an opportunity to develop new business relationships and friendships that will prove beneficial in both the short and long term.
“Association business takes time, it requires long term relationships and a desire to look years into the future. Our first European client event in 2018 broke new ground in terms of showcasing a destination. But above all else it worked”.
Ottawa is focused on changing perceptions in Europe, our sector specific targeting is delivering great results and we have developed intrigue, interest and excitement amongst buyers that is turning into tangible business”.
