In a strategic move to reposition for expanding infrastructure opportunities in Nigeria and across Africa, the Board of Directors of United Capital Plc has announced the appointment of four seasoned infrastructure investment experts as independent members of the Investment Committee of the United Capital Infrastructure Fund (UCIF).
The appointments, which have received ratification and clearance from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), are aimed at deepening governance and strengthening the Fund’s investment oversight.
United Capital said UCIF continues to deliver strong performance, with investments spanning power, industrial recycling, and renewable energy. The Fund has recorded a year-to-date gross return of 24.62%, underscoring its growing impact and resilience.
Commenting on the development, Group Chief Executive Officer of United Capital Plc, Mr. Peter Ashade, said the new appointments were made to enhance the Fund’s governance framework and sustain value creation.
“These appointments were made to further deepen the Fund’s governance and ensure that UCIF continues to drive sustainable impact through its investments. I welcome the newly appointed members of the Investment Committee and charge them to ensure sustainable growth and impact, while delivering consistent value to our investors,” Ashade said.
The newly appointed members bring decades of multi-sector experience, multinational exposure, and deep expertise in infrastructure and investment management. De Buys Scott has been appointed Chairman of the Investment Committee, while Olubunmi Akinremi, Bola Bamidele, and Obinna Ufudo join as independent members.
They will work alongside existing members of the committee, including Odiri Oginni, UcheNna Mkparu, and Adeyinka Jafojo.
United Capital also announced the exit of Mr. Samuel Nwanze from the Investment Committee following the completion of his tenure. The Group expressed profound appreciation for his contributions, noting his role in strengthening rigorous investment processes during his time on the committee.
Also speaking on the appointments, Chief Investment Officer and Fund Manager at UCIF, UcheNna Mkparu, said the Fund is well-positioned to scale its investments across the continent.
“We are delighted to welcome the new members to the Investment Committee and would be counting on their track record, wealth of experience across multiple jurisdictions and impeccable professional reputations to steer UCIF’s strategic direction as we scale investments that deliver competitive returns across Nigeria and Africa,” Mkparu said.
The appointments signal United Capital’s commitment to strong governance, sustainable infrastructure development, and long-term value creation for investors.
