The Capital Market Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CAMCAN) is set to host its annual workshop on December 2 and 3, 2023, at Orchid Hotels, Ajah, Lagos. The event aims to address key issues impacting the Nigerian capital market and contribute to the nation’s economic development.
This year’s workshop, titled ‘Leveraging Capital Market in Financing the National Development Plan,’ underscores the critical role of the capital market in supporting the execution of Nigeria’s National Development Plan. The plan, initiated in 2021, aims to address challenges such as economic fragility, insecurity, weak institutions, and infrastructure deficits, with a focus on generating employment and reducing poverty.
CAMCAN emphasizes the need for the government to unlock constraints hindering economic growth and promote inclusivity. The association contends that effective participation in key economic sectors will create opportunities for the private sector to drive growth, with the capital market serving as a hub for medium- and long-term financing.
The Guest Speaker for the workshop, Uchenna Uwaleke, a Financial Economist and Professor of Capital Market at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, will explore ways the government can utilize the capital market to implement the National Development Plan. The event will also feature a panel discussion with representatives from regulatory bodies and capital market operators, providing additional perspectives on the workshop’s theme.
Mr. Lamido Yuguda, Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), will declare the workshop open as the Special Guest of Honour. The Chief Executive Officers of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Limited, Mr. Timi Popoola, and FMDQ Plc, Mr. Bola Onadele, will be guests of honour. BUA Group, the Platinum sponsor, along with other sponsors such as Fidelity Bank Plc, United Bank for Africa, VFD Group, and Zenith Bank, will support the workshop.
The workshop anticipates fostering collaboration among experts, regulators, and stakeholders to address challenges and explore opportunities for sustainable economic growth through the capital market.
