In a bid to strengthen agricultural production and achieve food security, Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has urged agro dealers to collaborate effectively. The call came during a courtesy visit by the President of the Nigerian Agro Input Dealers Association (NAIDA), Alhaji Kabir Fara.
During the meeting, Senator Kyari emphasized the importance of collaboration and called on NAIDA to develop policies and programs aimed at mitigating the adulteration of agricultural products. He urged the association to prioritize the sale of certified and approved products sourced exclusively from registered input producers. The Minister underscored that the objective of this collaboration is to ensure that the products supplied meet the prescribed standards, both in terms of quality and quantity, contributing to overall food sufficiency.
Alhaji Kabir Fara, President of NAIDA, highlighted the association’s commitment to promoting best practices in the agricultural sector. Fara stated that NAIDA plays a crucial role in sensitizing farmers to purchase their inputs from established and approved centers. The association, acting as an umbrella for input distributors in Nigeria, covers a range of agricultural essentials such as fertilizers (both organic and inorganic), seeds, petrol chemicals, and farm implements.
Fara further explained that NAIDA operates as a structured national body with six zonal Vice Presidents and state chapter chairmen. These representatives, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, aim to ensure effective synergy at the grassroots level. The association is resolute in its commitment to transforming agricultural business practices, advocating for a departure from the conventional approach to agriculture.
With the collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and NAIDA, the Nigerian government aims to create an environment where agricultural products adhere to the highest standards. This initiative not only ensures food security but also promotes sustainable and responsible practices within the agricultural sector. As both entities work together, they aim to usher in a new era in Nigerian agriculture, marked by increased productivity and adherence to quality standards.
