MSMEs provides over 59 million employment in Nigeria — DG SMEDAN

In an effort to shed light on the N30 trillion “Ways and Means” loans acquired from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has urged the panel members to leave no stone unturned. Additionally, the committee has been tasked with probing the over N1 trillion Anchor Borrower Programme of the CBN under the previous administration.

Speaking in Abuja on Monday during the inauguration of the 17-member Ad-hoc Committee assigned to investigate the loans, Akpabio emphasized the importance of thoroughness in unraveling the details surrounding the loans. The committee has been allotted six weeks to conduct its investigations.

Akpabio stressed the necessity for the committee to remain impartial, urging members to prioritize the task at hand over personal and partisan interests. He emphasized the need for balance, devotion, and impartiality in approaching their responsibilities.

Recognizing the sensitivity of the investigation, Akpabio advised committee members to engage with relevant stakeholders and consultants to gather invaluable insights. Furthermore, he underscored the importance of maintaining open communication with both the executive and the public throughout the investigative process.

However, Akpabio cautioned against premature disclosure of any aspect of the report, emphasizing the need to maintain confidentiality until the conclusion of the task.

The initiation of this investigation reflects the Senate’s commitment to transparency and accountability in governance. By delving into the details of these loans and programmes, the committee aims to ensure that public funds are utilized appropriately and to hold accountable those responsible for their management.
