The Federal Government has announced July 23 and 24, 2025, as the dates for a national stakeholder forum aimed at tackling persistent issues surrounding petrol pricing and supply dynamics in the country’s downstream petroleum sector.
The upcoming summit, which will be hosted by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), is expected to convene independent marketers, refiners, industry operators, and government agencies. Discussions will centre on creating pricing stability, ensuring feedstock adequacy, and addressing the volatility of the deregulated market.
Confirming the development at the recently concluded 24th Nigeria Oil and Gas Energy Week in Abuja, Francis Ogaree, Executive Director of Hydrocarbon Processing Plants, Installation and Transportation Infrastructure at the NMDPRA, emphasized the need for constructive dialogue.
“We must build a transparent and resilient pricing structure that supports the post-subsidy market,” Ogaree said.
The dialogue comes amid mounting pressure from independent petroleum marketers, who have voiced frustration over unannounced changes in petrol prices, particularly from the Dangote refinery, a key supplier in the newly liberalised market.
Marketers have repeatedly called for regulatory clarity and structured pricing mechanisms to protect both operators and consumers from arbitrary price swings.
The July forum is expected to provide a roadmap for achieving market predictability and improving consumer confidence in the evolving downstream space.
