CBN Cuts Net Loans by ₦4.1tn Amid Overdraft Reduction to FG in 2024

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reiterated its commitment to sustaining initiatives that boost the economy and safeguard consumers in the financial sector.

Speaking during the CBN Fair held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Thursday, Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Harkama Sidi Ali, said the apex bank remains focused on policies that drive sustainable growth and protect the interests of Nigerians.

The fair, themed “Driving Alternative Payment Channels as Tools for Economic Development”, brought together stakeholders from microfinance institutions, fintech firms, MSMEs, regulators, and academia. According to Mrs. Sidi Ali, the event serves as a platform for dialogue between the CBN and the public, ensuring that the bank’s policies are well understood and effectively implemented.

She explained that the sub-theme, “Tools for Financial Inclusion, Growth and Accelerated Economic Development”, was chosen to highlight the importance of value addition and the critical role of SMEs in achieving price stability and economic expansion.

“The management of the bank, under the leadership of Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, is committed to stimulating productivity, enhancing financial inclusiveness, and delivering on its core mandate of monetary and price stability,” she said.
