FG, NCC Begin Review of 2000 Telecoms Policy, Pledge Transparency on Network Quality

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, in partnership with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has commenced the review of the National Telecoms Policy 2000.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, disclosed this at a media engagement in Abuja on Wednesday. He explained that the review aligns with the mandate of the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) 2003, which requires the Commission to guide and provide input to the national telecoms framework while the process is driven by the ministry.

According to Dr. Maida, the initiative is in line with the strategic blueprint unveiled by the Minister, Dr. Abudzun Tidjani, at the start of his tenure. The updated policy is expected to address emerging industry realities, enhance regulation, and strengthen consumer protection.

In addition, the NCC announced plans to publish quarterly disclosures on the performance quality of Mobile Network Operators (MNOs). This measure aims to keep Nigerians informed about the ranking and reliability of operators, fostering transparency and accountability in the telecom sector.
