NERC Orders Full Integration of Power Plants into National SCADA System by December 2025

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has disclosed that some international bilateral customers owe Nigeria’s electricity generation companies (GenCos) about $8.5 million in unpaid power supply bills.

In its latest Quarterly Report for the second quarter (Q2) of 2025, the Commission revealed that the companies made a payment of $9.015 million from an invoice of $17.54 million, indicating a remittance rate of 51.33 per cent.

According to NERC, “In 2025/Q2, the six international bilateral customers purchasing power from the grid-connected GenCos made a cumulative payment of $9.015 million against the $17.54 million invoice issued to them by the Market Operator (MO) for services rendered in the quarter.”

The report also noted that domestic bilateral customers paid a total of ₦1.401 billion out of the ₦2.79 billion invoiced, representing a remittance rate of 50.10 per cent for the same period.

NERC explained that the remittance figures were based on reconciled market settlements submitted to the Commission as of September 30, 2025. It added that one domestic bilateral customer made payments to clear outstanding invoices from previous quarters, including ₦10.53 million received from Trans-Amadi (OAU/FMPI).

The Commission reiterated its commitment to enforcing market discipline and ensuring full remittance compliance to sustain liquidity and operational stability in Nigeria’s power sector.
