Nigeria’s National Single Window Project to Revolutionise Trade by 2026

Nigeria’s National Single Window (NSW) project, launched in April 2024 by President Bola Tinubu, represents one of the country’s most ambitious digital trade reforms yet. The initiative is designed to simplify, unify, and accelerate import, export, and transit processes, marking a major milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward a more efficient and transparent trade ecosystem.

The full rollout of the NSW is scheduled for March 2026, by which time the system is expected to become fully operational nationwide. The government has described the initiative as not just a software upgrade but a comprehensive infrastructural reform that will transform multiple facets of trade and governance, including customs operations, port logistics, revenue collection, and regulatory oversight.

At its core, the National Single Window will serve as a one-stop digital platform where traders can complete all regulatory requirements for cross-border trade — from filing documents and obtaining permits to paying duties, securing inspections, and acquiring certifications.

When fully implemented, the NSW is expected to reduce costs, eliminate duplication of processes, minimise delays, and curb revenue leakages that have long plagued Nigeria’s import and export systems. It will also enhance transparency and accountability in trade procedures, making it easier for businesses to comply with international standards and for Nigeria to compete more effectively in regional and global markets.

By bridging gaps between government agencies and private operators, the NSW initiative promises to lay the foundation for a modernised, technology-driven trade ecosystem that supports the country’s broader economic diversification and growth agenda.
