PalmPay Nigeria on Tuesday organised a 7km sensitisation walk across major streets in Kano State to educate residents on online fraud prevention and the protection of their financial accounts and businesses.
Speaking at the end of the exercise at the Civic Centre in Kano, the Managing Director of PalmPay Nigeria, Chika Nwosu, said the initiative forms part of a nationwide anti-fraud campaign aimed at enhancing safety within Nigeria’s digital financial space.
Nwosu said the company is committed to ensuring that customers are shielded from digital scammers exploiting financial platforms. “We want a very healthy financial ecosystem. Our goal is to eliminate fraud and ensure no PalmPay user becomes a victim,” he stated.
He urged users to be vigilant when receiving digital links or messages, noting that many fraud attempts begin with fake links spread across social media. “Whenever you see a link on social media platforms or your phone, verify it before you click. Any link you don’t trust, don’t open it,” he warned.
The PalmPay chief also cautioned customers against sharing sensitive details, stressing that users should never disclose their PIN or One-Time Passwords (OTPs), even if the person claims to be a PalmPay staff member.
According to Nwosu, although fraud incidents on the platform have significantly reduced, the company remains determined to eliminate such cases completely. He also highlighted that PalmPay has millions of debit cards in circulation, usable at ATMs, web platforms, and partner agent outlets for convenient payments.
He encouraged residents to report suspicious activities through official customer service channels, noting that public engagement is key to strengthening the digital finance system.
During the sensitisation walk, PalmPay staff carried placards with messages such as “Together We Can Stop Fraud,” “Fraud Prevention Starts with You,” and “Don’t Share Your PIN With Anyone.”
The campaign covered several areas across Kano metropolis, including Murtala Muhammad Way, Bata Roundabout, Ibo Road, Abuja Road, Yankura Market, and Kano Guest Inn.
