Enugu Electricity Distribution Plc (EEDC) has announced the launch of a new debt recovery scheme offering discounts to customers with outstanding electricity bills, as part of efforts to encourage the settlement of long-standing arrears.
The power distribution company disclosed the initiative in a notice posted on its official social media platforms on Tuesday.
According to EEDC, the scheme, known as the Accelerated Settlement of Arrears Project, is designed to provide eligible customers with an opportunity to clear accumulated debts at discounted rates, subject to specific terms and conditions.
“The Accelerated Settlement of Arrears Project is here, an opportunity for eligible customers to settle outstanding arrears with approved discounts,” the company stated.
Details contained in an accompanying flyer described the programme as “a refreshed and graded discount programme designed and targeted at customers that have outstanding arrears.”
EEDC explained that only customers whose debts fall within a defined period would qualify for the initiative.
“To qualify, your arrears should be within the period before 31st December, 2022,” the company said.
Under the scheme, customers who choose to settle their debts through a one-time payment will receive a higher concession, with a 25 per cent discount on their outstanding bills.
Customers who prefer to spread payments over time will be eligible for a 20 per cent discount if the arrears are cleared within a three-month instalment plan.
The electricity distributor advised customers seeking further clarification on eligibility and applicable terms to contact the company through its official communication channels.
The introduction of the scheme comes as electricity distribution companies intensify efforts to improve revenue collection and reduce the backlog of unpaid bills across their networks.
