Agege LGA Launches ₦100 Million Grant to Empower Youths and Women

The Chairman of Agege Local Government Council, Mr Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, has unveiled a ₦100 million grant for youths and women involved in micro and small-scale enterprises in the area.

Obasa announced the initiative at a Skills Elevation Programme graduation ceremony held at the council secretariat on Friday, where 1,000 beneficiaries received vocational and digital training. The intervention aims to strengthen grassroots enterprises and human capital development, injecting funds into the local economy in collaboration with Speed Up Lagos.

Beneficiaries were trained in catering, food processing, fashion design, make-up and gele styling, digital technology, hairstyling, home essentials production, and sandal making. Obasa highlighted that the programme equips participants with practical and income-generating skills to foster sustainable empowerment.

Former Agege Council Chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi, commended Obasa for consolidating existing empowerment structures, while Dr Sherifat Adedoyin of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board noted that the initiative aligns with Lagos State’s broader skills development agenda.

Beneficiaries expressed optimism about the programme’s impact. Mrs Kemi Adebayo, a catering graduate, said the training would help expand her food business, while Mr Olalekan Sanni, trained in digital technology, noted that the grant support would enable him to compete confidently in the tech space.

Other dignitaries at the ceremony included the Council Vice-Chairman, Mr Adewale Azeez; Council Manager, Mr Adesina Osikoya; and community leaders.
