Power Oil, a leading cooking oil brand, has gone beyond traditional sponsorship to promote healthy living by creating an exclusive running community for the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon 2026.
The initiative, which culminated on February 14, saw hundreds of community members participate in the marathon after weeks of structured training. The top three finishers received cash prizes totaling N500,000, highlighting the brand’s hands-on approach to wellness.
Unlike typical brand sponsorships, Power Oil built the running community weeks ahead of the event, offering weekly training sessions, professional coaching, and nutritional guidance aligned with its heart-health advocacy.
“We wanted to do more than put our logo on a banner,” said Roland Akpe, Marketing Manager for Oils and Fats at Tolaram. “We wanted to run alongside Nigerians on their wellness journey. That’s what our brand has always been about: powering healthy living from the kitchen to the streets.”
Programs like WalkHeartOn, which commemorates World Heart Day, show Power Oil’s commitment to positioning itself as more than just a cooking oil—it is a partner in Nigerian families’ wellness journeys.
The Power Oil Exclusive Running Community represents the brand’s most immersive health initiative to date, translating advocacy into direct action and community building.
Even after the marathon, the community continues to thrive, with plans for future fitness activities and ongoing support for members committed to healthy living.
As lifestyle-related health conditions rise in Nigeria, initiatives like this highlight the role of brands in promoting preventive health through accessible, community-based programs.
