Nigeria will officially launch the National Single Window (NSW) platform on March 27, a move described by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, as a “monumental” step in transforming the country’s trade ecosystem.
The announcement was made during a stakeholders’ meeting at the State House, Abuja, attended by ministers, heads of agencies, and key officials. Gbajabiamila highlighted that the initiative, first introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nearly two years ago, represents a major fiscal and digital reform designed to simplify trade processes and enhance Nigeria’s global competitiveness.
“The National Single Window is a single national portal that replaces multiple windows for trade documentation and clearance,” Gbajabiamila said. “This meeting is to review our progress and ensure a smooth transition.” He also commended the Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Inland Revenue Service, and other participating agencies for their dedication to the project.
The NSW platform is a centralized digital system integrating all trade-related agencies, allowing importers and exporters to process documentation and clear goods more efficiently. The system is expected to reduce port delays, eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks, enhance transparency, and lower the cost of doing business in Nigeria.
Paperless trade through NSW alone is projected to generate $2.7 billion in annual economic benefits, strengthening Nigeria’s position in global commerce and supporting the government’s goal of building a $1 trillion economy. Countries like Singapore, South Korea, Kenya, and Saudi Arabia have reported significant improvements in trade efficiency after implementing similar systems.
President Tinubu inaugurated a committee for the NSW project in April 2024, directing that the platform be fully operational by the first quarter of 2026. The launch is expected to mark a major milestone in Nigeria’s digital trade reform, streamlining import and export procedures while attracting investment.
