First City Monument Bank (FCMB) supported and participated in The Peak Performer Emerging Leaders’ Summit 2026, which brought together 1,000 National Youth Service Corps members for practical sessions on employment, entrepreneurship, financial management and leadership.

The summit was convened by Dr Abiola Salami and organised by The Peak Performer Africa.

According to a statement by the bank on Thursday, the programme was held on August 19 at Solution Arena in Lagos.

The 2026 summit was themed “I Move with G.R.I.T. – From Potential to Performance.”

The programme focused on equipping young graduates with workplace competence, financial discipline, adaptability and execution skills needed to turn academic potential into career progress.

Participants explored five major pathways: Get Hired, Get Digital, Get Financially Strong, Build Something and Create Impact.

The sessions covered workplace expectations, artificial intelligence, digital skills, personal finance, entrepreneurship, responsible leadership and community problem-solving.

The Founder of The Peak Performer Africa and Convener of the summit, Dr Abiola Salami, said the programme was designed to help young people convert their potential into measurable performance.

He said potential alone was not enough and that young people needed the right mindset, capability and discipline to take deliberate action.

Salami added that the real impact of the summit would be measured by what participants achieved after leaving the programme.

As part of FCMB’s participation, the Group Head of Retail Asset Products, Olajire Awofisibe, joined other professionals and business leaders to discuss what young people need to successfully enter the workplace and advance their careers.

Awofisibe also served as a faculty member in the Get Financially Strong laboratory.

During the session, participants examined budgeting, saving, responsible borrowing, credit and financial decisions associated with earning a first salary.

Awofisibe said the transition from national service to employment or entrepreneurship often comes with important financial decisions.

He noted that earning an income alone does not guarantee financial security.

According to him, financial stability depends on how consistently individuals budget, save, use credit and plan for the future.

He said responsible borrowing could help people achieve useful goals but warned that credit could become a burden when used to finance consumption without a clear repayment plan.

Awofisibe added that developing sound financial habits from the first income could provide young people with a stronger foundation for the future.

The summit combined panel discussions and practical learning sessions with music, comedy and audience activities.

Nigerian Idol winner Victory Gbakara and first runner-up Precious Mac also shared lessons with participants.

They spoke about the preparation, discipline and courage required to move from talent and potential to measurable performance.

Following the summit, participants began a 30-Day MOVE Challenge designed to help them apply what they had learned.

Working in groups, the participants developed projects across the five pathways, identified beneficiaries and set milestones for their proposed initiatives.

They also presented their plans for review and committed to completing and documenting a specific action within 30 days.

FCMB said its support for the programme formed part of its efforts to help young Nigerians develop stronger financial knowledge and workplace skills.

The 2026 edition followed the 2025 summit, which attracted more than 500 corps members.
