The Central Bank of Nigeria has cautioned banking customers to safeguard their financial information, warning against sharing sensitive details such as PINs and passwords with anyone.
The advisory was issued in a post on the bank’s official X handle as part of activities marking Global Money Week 2026, amid increasing cases of fraud and scams targeting unsuspecting customers.
The apex bank emphasised that individuals should never disclose personal banking information, even to persons claiming to be bank officials.
“Protect your money by protecting your information. As we mark Global Money Week 2026, remember: your PINs, passwords, and banking details should never be shared with anyone, not even someone claiming to be from your bank. Stay alert. Stay safe,” the bank stated.
The warning comes as fraudsters continue to adopt sophisticated tactics, including impersonating bank representatives through phone calls, text messages, and emails, in a bid to trick customers into revealing confidential information.
Global Money Week is an annual international initiative aimed at promoting financial literacy, responsible money management, and consumer protection. The campaign is being observed globally, including in Nigeria, with a strong focus on safe banking practices.
The Central Bank reiterated the importance of vigilance and urged customers to report suspicious activities to their banks and relevant authorities to prevent financial losses.
