FCMB Group Plc has announced the appointment of Adepeju Adebajo as an Independent Non-Executive Director following approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued by the financial services group on Thursday.
According to the company, Adebajo joins the Board at a strategic period as FCMB Group strengthens its position in Nigeria’s financial sector and expands its operations.
The Group described the new director as a seasoned executive with more than 30 years of experience across renewable energy, agriculture, finance, and consulting.
The Board of Directors stated that her appointment aligns with FCMB Group’s long-term growth plans and governance objectives.
“Her wealth of experience in business transformation, strategy development, operational excellence, and ESG implementation will strengthen FCMB Group’s leadership and support its continued growth,” the statement said.
Adebajo holds academic qualifications from leading global institutions, including Harvard Business School and Imperial College London.
She previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Africa, Lumos Nigeria, and Mouka Limited. She also served as Commissioner for Agriculture in Ogun State.
FCMB Group noted that the appointment reflects its commitment to strengthening corporate governance and promoting innovation within the organisation.
“This appointment reflects the Group’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a robust governance framework and building a leadership team that supports innovation, inclusivity, and responsible practices,” the company added.
Beyond her corporate leadership roles, Adebajo is recognised for her work in climate change and sustainability advocacy.
She is the founder of the Climate Governance Initiative Nigeria and currently serves on the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Climate and Nature Governance.
The Board further highlighted her international experience, noting that she had supported clients across London, Europe, and the United States during her time with Boston Consulting Group and Citibank.
According to the company, her global exposure will support FCMB Group’s operations across banking, investment management, and consumer finance.
Adebajo currently chairs the Board of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund and also serves on several international boards, including Ibstock Plc in the United Kingdom.
FCMB Group said her appointment is expected to strengthen the organisation’s commitment to sustainability, energy transition, and female mentorship in Nigeria’s financial sector.
