First Bank of Nigeria Limited has partnered with global payments company Visa to launch the Visa Signature Card and the Naira Visa Debit Card, a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s digital payment ecosystem and meeting the needs of different customer segments.
The dual card rollout was unveiled during a ceremony in Lagos, where bank executives described the initiative as part of First Bank’s broader customer-focused strategy.
Speaking at the event, the Head of Cards and Messaging Services at First Bank of Nigeria, Obianuju Ondo-Okereke, said the newly introduced products were designed to provide secure and seamless payment experiences for users locally and internationally.
According to her, the Visa Signature Card targets affluent customers seeking premium banking services, while the Naira Visa Debit Card is tailored for everyday users who require accessible and globally accepted payment solutions.
“One of the key milestones today is the launch of these two cards, designed to deliver seamless, secure, and globally connected payment experiences to our customers,” Ondo-Okereke said.
The premium Visa Signature Card comes with multi-currency functionality embedded into a single chip. The card automatically switches between the naira, US dollar, British pound, and euro depending on the customer’s location and transaction requirements.
First Bank stated that the card also offers premium lifestyle benefits, including 24-hour concierge services, access to international airport lounges, travel insurance, and emergency medical assistance.
Vice President and Cluster Head for Visa West Africa, Andrew Uaboi, said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to addressing the evolving financial needs of customers across different stages of life.
“The partnership between Visa and First Bank demonstrates our shared commitment to catering for the diverse needs of customers,” Uaboi stated.
He added that both organisations are focused on providing products and solutions that align with the financial journeys of consumers.
Addressing concerns about security and accessibility, First Bank disclosed that both cards are powered by advanced chip-and-PIN technology to improve transaction safety.
The bank also revealed that the Naira Visa Debit Card will be issued instantly at branches nationwide for a Central Bank of Nigeria-regulated fee of N1,000.
Meanwhile, the Visa Signature Card comes with a default daily transaction limit of N3 million, which customers can increase upon request. The premium card is expected to be delivered within 24 to 48 hours, depending on the customer’s location.
Also speaking at the event, the Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at First Bank, Yinka Ijabiyi, thanked stakeholders and media partners for supporting awareness around the country’s evolving financial landscape.
Ijabiyi encouraged customers and stakeholders to experience the benefits of the newly launched products as First Bank continues to deepen partnerships aimed at driving financial innovation in Nigeria.
