The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), Ijebu-Imusin branch in Ogun State, has marked its 99th anniversary with a special celebration honouring about 100 deceased members who contributed to the growth and development of the organisation.
The anniversary celebration was held as the association prepares for its 100th anniversary, which will mark a major milestone in its history.
The event brought together members, families, community leaders and other stakeholders to celebrate the achievements of the YMCA over the years and remember members who had passed away.
As part of the activities, the association paid tribute to about 100 deceased members. The remembrance was aimed at recognising their contributions, sacrifices and commitment to the organisation during their lifetime.
The members were remembered for their various roles in strengthening the YMCA and supporting its activities within Ijebu-Imusin and the wider community.
The 99th anniversary also provided an opportunity for current members to reflect on the history of the organisation and the values that have sustained it for almost a century.
The YMCA has played a role in promoting community development, social activities, youth engagement and Christian values. Over the years, generations of members have participated in programmes aimed at improving the lives of people within the community.
Speaking on the significance of the anniversary, organisers said the celebration was not only about looking back at the achievements of the past but also preparing the organisation for its centenary year.
The remembrance of deceased members formed an important part of the celebration because of the role they played in laying the foundation for the organisation’s continued existence.
The event also encouraged younger members to learn about the history of the YMCA and appreciate the efforts of those who came before them.
With the 100th anniversary now approaching, attention is expected to shift towards preparations for the centenary celebration.
The centenary is expected to provide another opportunity for the YMCA Ijebu-Imusin to celebrate its long history, recognise past and present members, and highlight its contributions to the community.
The 99th anniversary therefore served as both a celebration and a moment of reflection, as members honoured the memory of those who helped build the organisation while looking forward to another important chapter in its history.
