The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) announced that it delisted more than 400,000 inactive and non-compliant companies from its official register in 2025, in a move aimed at safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s corporate database.
Registrar-General of the CAC, Husseini Magaji, disclosed the figures during a walk organised by the commission over the weekend in Abuja. “In 2025 alone, the commission de-registered over 400,000 companies,” Magaji said, emphasising the initiative’s role in cleaning up the national companies register from inactive and non-compliant entities.
He added that the CAC has modernised its operations to make business registration more accessible. “Today, CAC provides services anywhere, anytime and 24 hours a day. You can register your business from your room without coming to our offices,” Magaji noted.
In a bid to support small businesses, the commission, in partnership with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), facilitated free business registrations for 250,000 entrepreneurs last year. The initiative is part of a broader effort to promote entrepreneurship and ease of doing business in Nigeria.
The CAC’s actions reflect its ongoing commitment to streamline corporate governance and encourage formalisation of small enterprises, ensuring a more transparent and accountable business environment.
