In a move towards enhancing electricity supply in Nigeria’s rural areas, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Mr. Khalil Halilu, and the Managing Director/CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Mr. Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, have forged a collaborative partnership to deploy NASENI’s solar resources and other renewable energy technologies. This commitment materialized following discussions between the two senior executives in Abuja over the weekend, as Mr. Halilu visited the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) office to engage stakeholders in promoting the adoption of NASENI’s cutting-edge technologies.
Mr. Halilu, who assumed office as NASENI’s CEO just two weeks ago, expressed his keen interest in expeditiously establishing effective collaborations with the right stakeholders. These partnerships are envisioned to assist NASENI in fulfilling its mandate, which is to provide the essential science and engineering infrastructure necessary for Nigeria’s businesses and economy to flourish.
One of the primary goals of this cooperative effort between NASENI and the Rural Electrification Agency is to enhance rural electrification. The partners have set their sights on bringing down the cost of solar power installation in rural areas. This will be achieved through various measures, including the increased local production of solar panels by NASENI.
This collaborative initiative holds the potential to significantly transform rural communities across Nigeria by providing them with reliable and sustainable electricity access. Rural electrification is pivotal in driving economic growth, improving living standards, and fostering overall development. By deploying renewable energy technologies such as solar power, these rural areas can tap into a clean and abundant energy source, reducing their reliance on conventional fossil fuels and grid-based electricity
The commitment of NASENI and REA to work hand in hand underscores the government’s dedication to addressing energy disparities and advancing rural development. As the partnership takes shape, it is expected to yield tangible results in the form of increased electrification in underserved and remote regions, ultimately contributing to Nigeria’s broader economic and social progress.
As the nation looks forward to the expansion of renewable energy solutions, this collaboration marks a promising step towards achieving sustainable energy access and fostering rural growth in Nigeria. The joint efforts of NASENI and REA aim to light up more lives and empower communities through renewable energy technologies.
