The Federal Government has announced plans to begin the development of the Centenary City project in Abuja, a massive urban district covering over 1,200 hectares along the Airport Road corridor.
Speaking during a meeting with officials of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) in Abuja on Wednesday, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, said the city is a strategic component of Nigeria’s broader urban development agenda.
Dangiwa stressed that adequate funding remains crucial for transforming the ambitious vision into reality, with a clear focus on public-private partnerships (PPPs) and international development finance.
“Once the necessary infrastructure is in place, the Centenary City will attract investors across sectors—commercial, residential, tourism, and industrial,” he stated.
The proposed district is expected to catalyse economic activity, enhance Abuja’s urban appeal, and support the delivery of affordable housing and sustainable urban development.
KFAED, Kuwait’s development finance agency, is being courted as a potential funding partner to provide technical and financial assistance for the project, which is envisioned as a modern, inclusive, and economically vibrant urban hub.
