The Federal Government’s efforts to streamline trade facilitation have received a significant boost as the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) intensify collaboration on the National Single Window (NSW) project.
The NSW, described as a landmark initiative, aims to overhaul Nigeria’s import and export processes, enhance revenue generation, and strengthen the country’s position in global trade. At a high-level meeting held at the NCS Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, top officials from both agencies reviewed ongoing preparations and agreed on concrete steps to accelerate system integration ahead of the project’s planned commencement in the first quarter of 2026.
Launched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in April 2024, the NSW is designed to provide a centralised digital platform for all trade-related transactions, integrating systems across multiple government agencies. The platform is expected to simplify documentation, improve transparency, reduce clearance times, and lower operational costs for businesses, thereby improving Nigeria’s competitiveness in international markets.
Officials from FIRS and NCS reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring a seamless rollout, emphasising that the project will be a game-changer for Nigeria’s trade environment and a catalyst for economic growth.
