The Greenhill Ethanol Plant, located in Ologbo, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, is poised to play a crucial role in Nigeria’s ethanol industry. Investment analyst and CEO of Dairy Hills, Kelvin Emmanuel, projected that the plant, at full capacity, will be able to meet 5.8 percent of Nigeria’s ethanol demands and generate an impressive $29 million in annual revenue.
The development of the ethanol plant is part of the Edo State Government’s initiative to bolster the state’s manufacturing sector and attract private investments into the food processing industry. Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, expressed his satisfaction with the rapid progress of the plant during his recent inspection visit, applauding the commendable speed of work.
The Greenhill Ethanol Plant is slated to process an impressive 400 metric tonnes of cassava daily when operating at full capacity. This production volume is expected to serve as a crucial raw material source for the pharmaceutical and beverage industries within the country, effectively reducing the need for ethanol imports.
Kelvin Emmanuel elaborated on the economic benefits of the project, emphasizing that ethanol plays a vital role in blending conventional fuels to reduce carbon monoxide and increase the fuel-to-air combustion ratio, thereby reducing sulfur content. Furthermore, ethanol finds application in pharmaceutical and food manufacturing, making it a highly sought-after commodity.
The establishment of the Greenhill Ethanol Plant is the result of proactive reforms implemented by the Edo State Government to encourage investments in the manufacturing sector. These reforms form a vital part of the state’s vision to transform from a civil service state into a thriving manufacturing hub.
Notably, the Greenhill plant marks the second ethanol plant in Edo State, with another plant currently under construction by De United Foods Limited (Dufil), renowned for producing Indomie noodles. Dufil’s integrated farm facility in the state will also process cassava into ethanol, further solidifying Nigeria’s position as a key player in the ethanol industry.
With the Greenhill Ethanol Plant’s ambitious capacity and its contributions to reducing import reliance while boosting local industries, it holds the potential to revolutionize Nigeria’s ethanol landscape and further contribute to the state’s economic growth.
