The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has commended the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) for its efforts to reposition Nigeria’s manufacturing sector for sustained growth through the adoption of global best practices and methodologies.
The commendation was given by MAN’s Director of Research and Economic Policy Division, Dr. Oluwasegun Osidipe, at the MAN National Stakeholders Sensitisation Workshop on the GEF-UNIDO Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) and Resource Efficient Cleaner Production (RECP) Project held in Lagos last week.
In his welcome address, Osidipe described the IEE and RECP project as a defining moment in the collective journey toward sustainability within the manufacturing sector.
“It represents an essential moment for us as leaders in the manufacturing sector, where we have the opportunity, and indeed the responsibility, to champion sustainable practices that not only drive growth but also preserve our planet for generations to come,” he said.
Osidipe noted that energy inefficiency poses multifaceted challenges, including economic, environmental, and social implications. However, he stressed that these challenges also present opportunities for innovation and optimisation.
“As we embrace the principles of energy efficiency, we will not only be reducing our carbon footprint but also mitigating environmental degradation and saving on energy costs.
“In return, the efficiency, competitiveness, and resilience of our operations will be enhanced to meet the increasing demands of our ever-evolving global marketplace,” he stated.
He urged industrialists to safeguard the environment while promoting sustained economic growth by adopting cleaner production methods, optimising resource utilisation, and investing in energy-efficient technologies.
Osidipe also encouraged stakeholders to engage in dialogue, build partnerships, and implement the IEE and RECP methodologies across their industries.
He expressed confidence that collective commitment would accelerate the transition toward environmentally friendly manufacturing practices in Nigeria.
