MTN Nigeria Communications has been awarded two major international certifications — ISO/IEC 20000 for IT Service Management Systems and ISO/IEC 38500:2024 for IT Governance Management Systems.

The company disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the certifications highlight its commitment to delivering world-class, reliable and well-governed technology services to customers and stakeholders across Nigeria.

According to the telecom operator, the ISO/IEC 20000 certification is the global benchmark for organisations that demonstrate excellence in the design, delivery, management and continuous improvement of IT services.

Attaining the certification, the company said, reinforces its strong governance framework, disciplined operational processes and focus on service quality.

The recognition also validates the firm’s ability to deliver consistent, efficient and customer-focused IT services that align with global best practices.

In addition, MTN Nigeria successfully passed the ISO/IEC 38500:2024 IT Governance Management System audit.

With the achievement, the company becomes the first telecommunications firm in Nigeria and the first within the MTN Group to attain the ISO/IEC 38500:2024 standard.

The certification covers the governance of all IT-enabled services, systems and data management activities supporting MTN Nigeria’s business objectives.

It ensures that the company’s use of technology aligns with its corporate strategy while promoting ethical and responsible decision-making, improved accountability, leadership effectiveness and stakeholder engagement in line with global IT governance principles.

Speaking on the milestone, the Acting Chief Information Officer of MTN Nigeria, Bukola Ajayi, said the certifications reflect the company’s dedication to maintaining the highest international technology standards.

“These certifications reflect our unwavering dedication to delivering exceptional technology services that meet the highest global standards,” Ajayi said.

“They are a testament to the discipline, expertise and resilience of our teams who continually innovate to ensure reliable, secure and responsibly governed IT services for our customers and partners.”

Beyond compliance, the company noted that the certifications strengthen its reputation as a technology-driven organisation committed to resilience, efficiency and quality service delivery.

The achievements also align with MTN Nigeria’s long-term strategy to build a future-ready organisation supported by robust digital systems, scalable platforms and strong governance structures.

The telecom company added that the milestone reflects its continued investment in digital infrastructure and its goal of accelerating Nigeria’s digital transformation through responsible innovation and enhanced customer experience.
