The Nigerian naira remained relatively stable against the US dollar on Monday, September 14, 2026, despite a significant decline in trading activity at the official foreign exchange market.
Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria showed that the official exchange rate closed at about ₦1,326.30 per dollar, compared with ₦1,362.52 at the end of the previous week.
Trading activity, however, weakened. Interbank foreign exchange turnover fell by about 38% to $95.61 million, from $148.85 million recorded on Friday.
In the parallel market, the dollar was reported at around ₦1,385 for buying and ₦1,410 for selling, showing that demand for foreign currency remains strong outside the official market.
The movement of the naira remains important for Nigerian businesses because exchange rates affect the cost of imported goods, international payments and production inputs.
