The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is poised for a transformative shift as it embarks on a plan to commercialize 52 of its products, aiming to make innovative technologies readily available to Nigerians. This announcement was made by Khalil Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of NASENI, during a press briefing in Abuja, where he highlighted his achievements over the past year in office.
Halilu described his first year as “nothing short of transformative,” emphasizing a renewed focus on integrating technology and manufacturing as vital components of Nigeria’s national development strategy. “From the outset, I brought a fresh, dynamic energy to the agency, steering it toward a future where technology and manufacturing are not just buzzwords but driving forces of national development,” he stated.
Under Halilu’s leadership, NASENI has fostered partnerships aimed at establishing a foundation for Nigeria’s industrial revolution. These collaborations have led to significant advancements in projects related to reverse engineering, rural electrification, and innovative manufacturing solutions. “Next year, I will focus more on enhancing NASENI’s impact on Nigeria’s technological and industrial landscape,” he assured.
A key objective moving forward is to ensure that viable NASENI products do not remain merely as prototypes but are instead commercialized for the market. “I aim to eliminate the practice of letting prototypes gather dust on shelves,” Halilu declared, underlining the need for actionable steps in bringing innovations to market. The agency has focused on forging strategic partnerships with leading players in the production field, both locally and internationally, to ensure successful commercialization.
As NASENI gears up for this ambitious plan, the agency is set to play a critical role in positioning Nigeria as a competitive player in the global technology and manufacturing landscape, ultimately benefiting the nation’s economy and technological infrastructure.
