The Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group) has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability through a community cleanup exercise in Marina, Lagos, to commemorate World Environment Day 2026.
The exercise was conducted in partnership with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Recyclers Association of Nigeria (RAN), bringing together employee volunteers from NGX Group and representatives of the partner organisations.
The initiative was designed to promote responsible waste management, raise environmental awareness, and encourage greater community participation in sustainability efforts.
Beyond supporting cleaner public spaces and advocating proper waste disposal practices, the exercise provided employees with an opportunity to actively contribute to environmental causes, reinforcing NGX Group’s commitment to staff volunteering and community impact.
The cleanup programme forms part of NGX Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework and aligns with its environmental sustainability pillar, which focuses on recycling, environmental education, and sustainability-driven interventions.
Speaking on the initiative, the Head of Group Communications and Partnerships at NGX Group, Clifford Akpolo, said sustainability remains central to the organisation’s vision of creating long-term value for stakeholders and society.
“This cleanup exercise reflects our commitment to translating that vision into action by supporting environmental stewardship within the communities where we operate,” Akpolo said.
“Through our collaboration with LAWMA and RAN, we are helping to promote responsible waste management while demonstrating the value of collective action in addressing environmental challenges.”
He noted that partnerships between private sector organisations and public agencies are critical to improving waste management systems and advancing recycling efforts across the country.
According to Akpolo, collective action and sustained stakeholder engagement are essential for building cleaner and more sustainable communities.
As a leading market infrastructure group, NGX Group continues to integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into its operations, business practices, and stakeholder engagements as part of its broader commitment to sustainable development.
The World Environment Day initiative underscores the group’s dedication to fostering environmental responsibility while contributing to efforts aimed at creating a healthier and more sustainable future.
