Nigeria’s Data Privacy Sector Generates $10 Million and 23,000 Jobs in Three Years
The Federal Government has announced a significant achievement in Nigeria’s data privacy sector, revealing that it has generated over $10 million in revenue and created approximately 23,000 jobs within the past three years. Dr. Vincent Olatunji, the National Commissioner of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), shared these figures during the eighth edition of the Network of African Data Protection Authorities (NADPA) conference held in Abuja on Tuesday.
Olatunji highlighted the role of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023, which provided a strategic framework for the sector’s rapid growth. The initiative aligned with national policy frameworks and the Federal Ministry of Communications’ five-pillar blueprint. This roadmap helped establish 267 data protection compliance organizations, marking a notable improvement in the sector’s compliance and governance.
“Our approach has not only driven revenue growth but also strengthened the data protection ecosystem in Nigeria, making it a leader in Africa,” said Olatunji. The national drive towards data privacy compliance has set a new standard for other African nations to follow.
