The crucial meeting between the federal government and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) aimed at preventing an impending indefinite strike scheduled to commence this Friday concluded without any resolution on the NLC’s demands. Additionally, the NLC has proposed a 200 percent Wage Award for workers as a means to alleviate the impact of petroleum product subsidy removal.
In further efforts to resolve the impasse, it has been learned that the federal government has invited the leadership of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for additional discussions scheduled for today at the Ministry of Labour and Employment in Abuja.
Following the meeting held at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, NLC President Joe Ajaero addressed journalists, stating that although the discussions were substantial, no agreement had been reached on any matter. When questioned about the negotiation outcome, Ajaero remarked, “You can see that there was no agreement on any issue, there is no CNG anywhere, refineries are not operational, and no progress has been made regarding the wage award, cash transfers, or the ASUU issues.”
