Trading at the Nigerian Stock Exchange closed earlier this week on Thursday, as the Federal Government of Nigeria declared Friday 19th April 2019 that is good Friday and Monday 22nd April 2019, Easter Monday as Public Holidays to mark the end of the End of the Lenten season and Easter celebrations.
During the week, the Financial Services Industry led the activity chart with 7,820 transactions in which a total 766.191 million shares was traded for the sum of N7.261 billion Naira.
This accounts for 77.50% and 63.51% of the total equity turnover volume and value respectively of trades on the floor of the Exchange last week.
The ICT Industry followed with 74.769 million shares worth N24.600 million in 212 deals.
Third place was the Consumer Goods Industry which recorded a turnover of 48.022 million shares worth N3.095 billion in 2,374 transactions.
Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, Access Bank Plc and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc all measured by volume came up as top three equities in all accounting for 355.043 million shares worth N4.845 billion in 2,133 transactions.
This accounts for 35.91% and 42.38% of the total equity turnover volume and value of Equity Turnover of transactions in the week.
Overall, a total turnover of 988.692 million shares worth N11.432. billion in 13,596 transactions was recorded this week on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange in contrast to a total of 1.770 billion shares valued at N15.264 billion trade in 17,015 deals the previous week.
The NSE All-Share Index and Market Capitalization appreciated by 1.78% to close the week at 30,086.31 and N11.301 trillion respectively.
Similarly, all other indices finished higher with the exception of the NSE Oil/Gas Index that depreciated by 2.12%.
Thirty-three (33) equities appreciated in price during the week, lower than thirty-five (35) in the previous week.
Thirty-three (33) equities depreciated in price, higher than thirty-one (31) equities of the previous week.
Overall, one hundred and one (101) equities remained unchanged, the same with one hundred and one (101) equities recorded in the preceding week.
