Electricity has been restored in several parts of Kenya following a widespread power outage that affected multiple regions on Wednesday evening.
Power distributor Kenya Power confirmed that electricity supply had been restored across the Mt. Kenya region, North Rift, Western Kenya, South Nyanza, and parts of Nairobi.
The utility announced the restoration in a statement issued on Wednesday night. It added that efforts were continuing to restore electricity to the remaining parts of Nairobi and the coastal region.
Earlier, Kenya Power said the outage had affected Nairobi, the coast, the Mt. Kenya region, and parts of the Central Rift Valley. The company did not immediately disclose the cause of the disruption.
Kenya has experienced several major power outages in recent years. The country’s electricity grid suffered significant blackouts in September and December 2024, raising concerns about the reliability of the power network.
According to Kenya Power, the company supplies electricity to more than 9.6 million customers across the country.
