CBN Holds Benchmark Interest Rate at 27.5% to Sustain Disinflation Momentum

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, to immediately clarify the whereabouts of the missing or diverted N3 trillion highlighted in the recently released 2022 annual report of the Auditor-General of the Federation.

SERAP said the allegations, published by the Auditor-General on September 9, 2025, raise serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and compliance with the Nigerian Constitution, the CBN Act, and national anti-corruption standards.

In a letter signed by the organisation’s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, SERAP urged the CBN governor to identify all officials responsible for the diversion or disappearance of the funds and hand them over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for thorough investigation and prosecution.

The group also called for the immediate recovery and return of any missing public funds to the national treasury, stressing that Nigerians deserved full accountability regarding the alleged violations of public trust.

SERAP noted that the Auditor-General’s findings reveal “grave allegations” requiring urgent action to prevent further erosion of confidence in Nigeria’s financial governance system.
