The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has foiled an attempted theft at its 330/132kV transmission substation in Bauchi, preventing damage to critical power infrastructure.
The incident occurred at about 9:34 p.m. over the weekend, according to a statement issued in Abuja by the company’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.
Mbah said security personnel stationed at the substation intercepted suspected vandals attempting to remove critical transmission tower components.
She explained that the suspects fled the scene immediately after sighting the security guards.
Following the incident, TCN conducted an inspection of the area and recovered 12 transmission tower angle irons, a heavy-duty metal measuring scale and a white pickup truck believed to have been used by the suspects during the attempted theft.
According to the company, the recovered materials and the vehicle have been handed over to the Railway Division Police Station in Bauchi for further investigation.
TCN confirmed that no equipment was successfully stolen during the incident and that no injuries were recorded.
The company commended the swift response and vigilance of its security personnel, noting that their timely intervention prevented the theft and possible damage to critical electricity transmission infrastructure.
TCN also urged residents of host communities to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around power installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
The company stressed that protecting transmission infrastructure is essential to ensuring a stable and reliable electricity supply across the country.
