The number of active internet subscribers in Nigeria reached an impressive 141,985,207 as of April 2025, according to the latest data released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The report highlights the continued dominance of GSM technology, which accounted for 141,471,371 subscribers—over 99% of the total figure.
The internet subscriber data, obtained from the NCC’s official website and reported by THISDAY, shows that GSM remains the top platform for digital connectivity in the country, outperforming other technologies such as Fixed Wired, Wired/Wireless, and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).
In comparison, Fixed Wired technology recorded 7,281 connections, Wired/Wireless technology had 285,702, and VoIP services accounted for 262,126 connections as of April 2025.
A year-on-year analysis reveals significant growth: in June 2024, total internet subscriptions stood at 136,497,384, with GSM connectivity alone at 135,942,275. This reflects a continued upward trend in digital access, largely driven by mobile technology.
The NCC data confirms GSM’s pivotal role in expanding digital access and deepening internet penetration across Nigeria’s urban and rural areas.
