Nigeria’s average daily crude oil production rose to 1.507 million barrels per day (bpd) in July, according to the latest report by the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
The figure represents a 7,000 bpd increase above the country’s approved OPEC quota, marking the second consecutive month Nigeria has sustained production levels above the benchmark.
Data from OPEC’s Monthly Oil Market Report for July shows a marginal increase of 2,000 bpd compared to June’s 1.505 million bpd output.
According to The PUNCH, this is the third time in 2025 that Nigeria has met or exceeded its OPEC quota — in January, June, and July. January recorded the highest production at 1.54 million bpd, before output dropped to 1.46 million bpd in February and further down to 1.40 million bpd in March. Production recovered to 1.48 million bpd in April, slipped to 1.45 million bpd in May, and has remained above quota since June.
Analysts say the recent gains may reflect renewed government efforts to stabilise and ramp up production amid ongoing reforms in the oil sector.
