The Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has commenced petrol deliveries to petroleum marketers in Lagos using its new compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered trucks, in a move set to transform Nigeria’s fuel distribution system.
A LEADERSHIP correspondent confirmed the development after observing a marked truck discharging fuel at the Conoil filling station opposite Ikeja General Hospital. Similar deliveries were also sighted at other stations, including MRS and Conoil outlets in Ikeja.
The CNG-powered fleet, imported through Apapa Port, represents a significant capital investment estimated at N720 billion, underscoring Dangote’s commitment to pioneering innovation in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector. The trucks are expected to reduce logistics costs, improve efficiency, and enhance customer supply experience as the refinery expands its operational capacity.
A truck driver confirmed the rollout, saying, “We’ve started discharging fuel with the truck. If you go further down the road, you’ll see another truck at the Conoil station also discharging.”
At the Conoil station near LASUTH, motorists were seen queuing as the delivery was being completed, reflecting public anticipation of improved fuel availability.
The development marks a major milestone for the refinery’s distribution strategy, with industry stakeholders expecting the initiative to set new standards in sustainable fuel transportation.
