The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reaffirmed its commitment to building a resilient economy capable of supporting the aspirations of Nigerians through strategic reforms and policy alignment.
The Deputy Governor for Corporate Services, Emem Usoro, made this known at the combined 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th convocation ceremonies of Akwa Ibom State University, held in Ikot Akpadem, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Usoro spoke shortly after being conferred with an honorary Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), Honoris Causa, noting that the apex bank has implemented policies aimed at stabilising the economy and promoting inclusive growth.
“At the Central Bank of Nigeria, we are working hard to build a resilient economy that will support your dreams and integrate you into a global economy full of immense opportunities,” she said.
She explained that the bank has developed systems and aligned monetary policies with fiscal reforms of the Federal Government, a move she said has contributed to exchange rate stability, improved macroeconomic conditions, and boosted economic growth.
According to her, the reforms are designed to position the economy to serve all segments of society while fostering sustainable development.
Usoro also announced that the CBN would support the university’s academic and research initiatives, describing education as a critical driver of national development.
“As an institution, we will support the university with a token for its academic and research work to enhance its impact in Nigeria,” she added.
Addressing graduating students, she urged them to remain curious and committed to lifelong learning, emphasising the importance of continuous self-improvement in a rapidly evolving global economy.
She further encouraged female graduates not to be discouraged by societal or cultural barriers, stressing that excellence is built on preparation, sacrifice, and perseverance.
Other recipients of honorary doctorate degrees at the ceremony included the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, who received a Doctor of Arts degree, alongside several distinguished Nigerians honoured for their contributions across various fields.
The university stated that the awards were conferred in recognition of the recipients’ outstanding achievements and impact on society.
