Energia Limited Marks 25 Years of Growth in Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Sector

Indigenous energy firm, Energia Limited, has announced the commencement of activities to mark its 25th anniversary, highlighting a quarter-century of operational resilience, innovation and value creation in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

Established in 2001 by Nigerian petroleum professionals, many of whom were core members of the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria, Energia was founded to demonstrate the technical and operational capabilities of indigenous companies within Nigeria’s energy industry.

Reflecting on the milestone, the Chairman of Energia, George Osahon, described the anniversary as a tribute to the people and strategic partnerships that have shaped the company’s growth.

“Reaching 25 years is an important moment for Energia and a tribute to the vision, resilience, and collective commitment of everyone who has contributed to the company’s journey,” Osahon said.

“As we celebrate this milestone, we recognise the foundation laid by our founders, employees, host communities, partners, and stakeholders. That foundation gives us confidence as Energia continues to build responsibly for the future,” he added.

Over the past two decades, the company has evolved from an exploration and production business into an integrated energy provider with assets spanning crude production, gas processing, storage and export infrastructure.

A major turning point came in 2009 when Energia achieved First Oil from the Ebendo/Obodeti field in Delta State.

Between 2010 and 2013, the company partnered with Xenergi to install a 25 million standard cubic feet per day gas processing plant.

By 2012, Energia had reprocessed its 3D seismic data, completed its first development well and surpassed one million barrels in cumulative crude production.

Subsequent facility upgrades expanded the company’s flow station capacity to 8,000 barrels of oil per day and 25 million standard cubic feet of gas per day in 2014.

The expansion helped drive cumulative crude production to five million barrels in 2016 and 10 million barrels by 2020.

Since 2021, Energia has completed a produced-water treatment plant, acquired new 3D seismic data and drilled two additional wells in the northern section of the field.

The company is also working to increase field capacity to 20,000 barrels of oil per day.

Beyond its upstream operations, Energia has secured interests in the Ugbo and Irigbo marginal fields and is developing a 5,000 barrels-per-day crude distillation unit at Onshore Kwale in Delta State.

The project is expected to strengthen the company’s downstream presence and expand its role across Nigeria’s energy value chain.

Speaking on the company’s roadmap, Energia’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Oladimeji Bashorun, said the next phase of growth would focus on disciplined execution and operational efficiency.

“Twenty-five years is a significant milestone in Energia’s journey, and it is an opportunity to reflect on the vision, determination, technical capability, and partnerships that have shaped our growth,” Bashorun said.

“As we honour our legacy, we are equally focused on the future. Our next chapter will be defined by operational excellence, responsible energy development, innovation, strategic growth, and stronger partnerships,” he added.

The company will roll out a five-month anniversary programme under the theme, “Honouring Energia’s Legacy. Shaping Tomorrow’s Energy.”

The programme will feature engagements with industry stakeholders, community impact initiatives and discussions focused on the future of Nigeria’s energy sector.

As Energia marks 25 years of operations, the company is positioning its next phase of growth around expanding production capacity, strengthening infrastructure and deepening its presence across Nigeria’s energy value chain.
