The Bank Directors Association of Nigeria (BDAN) has announced the appointment of Oluwayemisi Olorunshola as Chairman of its Board of Directors.

Her appointment follows the retirement of Mustafa Chike-Obi, who completed his tenure as chairman.

The development was disclosed in a statement made available over the weekend.

Olorunshola currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Wema Bank Plc. She brings over 25 years of cumulative experience spanning supply chain management, business leadership, and corporate governance.

According to the statement, she has more than 15 years of experience in a multinational organisation and over a decade of experience as a business manager. Her expertise covers business and production planning, procurement, distribution, import and export operations, as well as logistics services.

She was appointed to the BDAN Board in January 2023 as a director. Since then, she has demonstrated strong commitment to the association’s mandate of strengthening bank governance and promoting sustainable leadership within Nigeria’s banking sector.

Olorunshola holds a Bachelor of Science degree in education and economics from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. She also earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, and a Doctor of Business Administration from Walden University, United States.

She is described as a passionate advocate for education and sustainable enterprise. Olorunshola has authored a widely referenced publication on small business sustainability strategies, published in the Journal of Functional Education (FEAcademia) and indexed on ProQuest and Academia.edu. Her research has been cited by several scholars in the field of business sustainability.

She is also a Fellow of the International Institute for African Scholars and a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Olorunshola is actively involved in community development initiatives and civic engagements. She contributes to social and economic advancement through various programmes.

Speaking on the appointment, the Chief Executive Officer of BDAN, Adebukola Orenuga, described Olorunshola as a principled and accomplished leader with significant board and business experience.

“Dr Olorunshola is a principled and accomplished leader with significant board and business experience. She has consistently demonstrated dedication to the vision and mission of the association,” Orenuga said.

She added that the association is confident that under Olorunshola’s leadership, BDAN will strengthen its strategic impact and continue to promote the interests of bank directors and banks in Nigeria.

The association also expressed appreciation to Chike-Obi for his exemplary leadership and invaluable contributions during his tenure as chairman.
