Nigeria’s Petrol Imports Drop 42%, Dangote Refinery Boosts Domestic Supply

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a reduction in the ex-depot prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, and Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel).

The company said the new prices take effect from Thursday, August 6, as part of its commitment to making high-quality petroleum products more affordable for Nigerians.

Under the revised pricing structure, the ex-depot price of PMS has been reduced to ₦1,165 per litre from ₦1,215 per litre, representing a ₦50 per litre decrease.

The refinery also reduced the ex-depot price of diesel to ₦1,570 per litre, down from ₦1,650 per litre, reflecting a ₦80 per litre reduction.

Dangote Refinery said the latest price adjustment is aimed at improving energy affordability, increasing access to refined petroleum products and supporting economic activities across the country.

The company stated that it remains committed to ensuring a stable supply of petroleum products while leveraging operational efficiencies to deliver greater value to consumers, businesses and other stakeholders.

It added that the refinery would continue to strengthen Nigeria’s energy security by increasing the local supply of refined petroleum products and reducing the country’s dependence on fuel imports.

“As Africa’s largest refinery, Dangote Petroleum Refinery continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening Nigeria’s energy security, reducing reliance on imports, and supporting the nation’s economic development through the supply of world-class petroleum products,” the company said.

The refinery also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the growth of Nigeria’s economy by passing on the benefits of improved operational efficiencies to consumers whenever market conditions allow.
