The 11 electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) in Nigeria collected ₦1.101 trillion in revenue from customers during the first half of 2025, according to an analysis of their monthly factsheet released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The report shows that the amount was generated from ₦1.486 trillion worth of electricity billed to customers, leaving an unpaid balance of ₦385.43 billion for electricity already supplied.
A breakdown of the collections indicates that Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) recorded the highest revenue of ₦207.14 billion from bills totaling ₦244.08 billion. Ikeja Electric followed with ₦193.46 billion out of ₦256.74 billion billed, while Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) came third with ₦176.81 billion from ₦225.92 billion billed.
Other major performers include:
- Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC): ₦122.81 billion collected from ₦160.52 billion billed
- Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC): ₦103.92 billion collected from ₦125.3 billion billed
- Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC): ₦90.51 billion collected from ₦113.74 billion billed
The data underscores the persistent challenge of payment defaults in Nigeria’s electricity market, a factor contributing to liquidity crises across the power value chain.
